The Fire Rooster – 2017
January 28, 2017 to February 15, 2018 is marked in the lunar calendar as the Year of the Fire Rooster, a period when the fiery temperament of the Rooster is expected on the one hand to infuse more enthusiasm and energy into our activities, but on the other to usher in a destructive relationship with the status quo, meaning that challenges may proliferate for everyone during the year, and seismic change is almost inevitable.
Rather than quail in fear, however, it is good to remember that roosters are brave and chivalrous – valiant heroes – and are unafraid to face opposition, adversity or stress. What is more, roosters are communal birds and 2017 promises to be a lucky year for collective action. So lean on each other. Despite all the flap they may cause, the Rooster knows that rude awakenings can also be beneficial. Roosters do not back down from a fight, raise a ruckus when thwarted, and know how to embrace change as “transformation.” In this way, they are like another beast from Chinese mythology – the Phoenix.
